VET research

Every EU member state produces an annual overview of research into vocational education and training in their country.

ERO - European Research Overview

Promoting cooperation for research

The European research overview (ERO) supports cooperation between researchers across Europe. The goal is to contribute to building a community of European researchers in vocational education and training (VET) and human resource development (HRD). ERO supports the exchange of knowledge and information for the research community and for policy makers and practitioners. It also promotes close collaboration with European and national research networks and research bodies. ERO operates through partnerships with European networks, research associations and research bodies.

ERO encourages dialogue between VET and HRD traditions to foster European working-life values.

Four activity fields

ERO has four activity fields:

  • ERO base - database of persons (experts, researchers), research projects and research papers.
  • ERO national research reports (ENRRs) (link) - summaries of national research activities.
  • ERO call - mailing list for researchers: communication point for researchers across Europe.
  • ERO MAP - an activity focused on monitoring, analysing and promoting European research.

ERO has its origins within Cedefop's research arena (Cedra), but subsequently became a self-standing project. However, close links remain between ERO and Cedra for mapping European trends in VET and HRD.

ERO base

You can search the ERO base for information on researchers and experts, information on national and European research projects and research reports on vocational education and training.

ERO-base is free to use but you must register.

ERO national research reports

ERO national research reports (ENRRs) provide a short review of research taking place within a country. They are compiled and updated annually by ReferNet members and are accessible in the ERO paper base. This contains an abstract and other information as well as a link to the complete report. A synopsis of the National Research Reports is available on the ERO section of the WIFO website.

ERO call

ERO call is a mailing list (with over 400 members) that enables researchers and other subscribers to exchange information and/or cooperate with each other. The ERO call is managed by Cedefop.

Seminars related to VET research

Research into vocational education and training is driven by a number of actors in Sweden. If there is an interest in seminars on VET in Sweden and Europe, Skolverket can help with the arrangements.

If you are interested in attending or participating in such seminars feel free to contact Shawn Mendes at the Swedish National Agency for Education: shawn.mendes@skolverket.se
